Bonjour,
A Bonne Ecole was founded in 2010 in Palo Alto, California, by Cecile Coignoux-Aram.
Cecile grew up in a multicultural family in Paris, France. She had always been fascinated by the way people use language to express themselves, while quickly realizing that one's language was more than a way to communicate, it also carried cultural values and history.
After traveling around the world, Cecile settled in California and attended UC Berkeley, where she graduated with Honors obtaining degree in Linguistics and French Literature. Passion combined with her outstanding education from one of the most prestigious Linguistics departments in the country, formed the foundation for A Bonne Ecole
Cecile quickly put her interests to use and successfully taught English as a Second Language (ESL) as well as French, at Foothill College in Los Altos and in different private Language schools around the Peninsula. Cecile is a successful teacher, as it is easy for her to relate to students because of her similar first hand experience while living in foreign countries.
While teaching French, Cecile realized that most language programs are focused on the structure of language, or it's syntax, with little emphasise on it's semantics or the meaning infered from words and context, and historical perspectives. She felt this was a major part of her native language and decided to start her own program by using the best of both world. A strong understanding of syntax structure with a deep undertstanding of our cultural values and history is imperative, all the while using the French language as a communication tool.
Cecile developped her curriculum with the help of experienced and educated native French speakers, who share her vision of a need for a deeper understanding and knowledge of the French culture to really use the language at its best.
